Say Cheese: 12 Photos That Should Never Have Been Posted Online – washingtonpost.com

You know the old cliche, a picture is worth a thousand words? Turns out that pictures have been deeply undervalued: A single photo can cost you your reputation, your job, even your freedom–if you post it online.

Teachers, principals, firefighters, mayors, university presidents, and everyday people have all discovered the dark side of putting the wrong photos and videos on social networking sites. Sometimes they paid the price in embarrassment. An unlucky handful lost their jobs or landed in jail.

The results aren’t pretty, but they are sometimes hilarious. Here’s our dirty dozen–12 pictures their owners probably wish they could take back.

200809230724.jpg1. Hey Kevin, Tinker Bell Wants Her Outfit Back

It’s bad enough to dress up like you’re about to slip a dollar under some toothless child’s pillow. But former intern Kevin Colvin made it much worse by asking his boss at Anglo Irish Bank if he could take time off for a “family emergency in New York,” then flitting off to a Halloween party dressed like a refugee from Peter Pan. Putting the faerie pix on his Facebook profile was the finishing touch. After his boss found the pictures, he responded by attaching the photo in question and blind-copied the entire office. Colvin lost his internship and what was left of his reputation when the e-mail messages went flying across the Internet; at least he got to keep the wand.

200809230726.jpg2. Quick, Call 911–My Pants Are on Fire

Now that an ex-beauty queen is running for the VP slot, life may be easier for hot mommas who also happen to be office holders. It will be too late to help Carmen Kontur-Gronquist, though. The former mayor of Arlington, Oregon, got in hot water with her constituents after a family member posted photos to her MySpace profile showing off her, umm, political assets in the town firehouse (where she worked as an executive secretary). Amazingly, the town of 500 voted to recall her from office shortly after the photos went public. Maybe they were afraid people would start setting fires, just to see what she was wearing when she showed up.

200809230729.jpg3. Muscle Bound or Muscle Brained?

What is it about firehouses that makes people want to take off their clothes? In this case, Boston fireman Alberto Arroyo got in trouble for stripping down to take part in a body-building competition last May. (He finished eighth in the 2008 Pro Natural American Championships, by the way.) There’s nothing wrong with fire fighters showing off their muscles, but Arroyo made the mistake of competing two weeks after he’d filed for permanent disability status due to back injuries. Apparently his injuries enabled him to lift barbells but prevented him from inspecting buildings for code violations. After his bosses saw video of Arroyo competing on YouTube, they decided to give him plenty of spare time to work on his pecs.

200809230741.jpg4. Vending Machine Leads Tennis Teen, 40-Love

British tennis phenoms Naomi Broady and David Rice are no longer feeling the love from the UK’s Lawn Tennis Association. The LTA nixed its sponsorship of the teens in October 2007 after discovering photos of Broady and Rice on social networking site Bebo showing them drunk, getting intimate with condom dispensers in public restrooms, and otherwise displaying “a lack of discipline.” According to the Yorkshire Evening Post,”Naomi’s Bebo profile showed her out on the town, with her legs wrapped round a toilet vending machine.” No doubt trying to coax it to return the correct change.

200809230745.jpg5. Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum

What do you do with a drunken pirate? Throw her in the brig–or, if you’re Millersville University, deny her a teaching degree. That’s what happened to Stacey Snyder, a then-27-year-old student teacher who posted a self portrait to her MySpace page under the caption “drunk pirate,” even though it was not clear from the photo exactly what liquid was in her plastic cup. The Pennsylvania-based university decided the picture was “unprofessional” enough to rescind Snyder’s degree, just days before it was to be awarded in May 2006. Snyder sued the university in federal court, claiming it violated her First Amendment rights (not to mention, of course, her Right to Paaaaar-tay). As of publication date of this story, that suit is still active.

6. Moronic at Any Speed

Quick, what’s more stupid–driving 140 mph or filming yourself while driving 140 mph? How about filming yourself driving 140 mph and then posting the evidence on YouTube? That was only the tip of the dunce-berg for 23-year-old Andrew Kellett of Leeds, England. He posted more than 80 videos of himself driving recklessly, stealing gasoline, using drugs, and engaging in sundry other illegal activities under the name “Mrchimp2007.” Last July, a city magistrate who’d had enough of this monkey business gave Kellett two years probation and ordered him to stop posting videos of his dirty deeds ( though some are still available online). “Kellett must be in the running to be Britain’s Dumbest Criminal,” said Leeds City Councilor Les Carter. “If more criminals were as obliging, the city would be even safer.”

200809230820.jpg7. Where There’s Smoke, There’s Ire

Sometimes posting a photo of someone else is enough to get you in trouble. In March 2005 Central High student Eliazar Velasquez snapped shots of principal Elaine Almagno having a smoke on school grounds and posted them to his Web site. He then distributed flyers throughout the Providence-based school, urging students to visit the site. Though it was Almagno who got caught breaking Rhode Island’s ban on smoking near schools, it was the sophomore who got suspended. But not for long; after the story hit the news wires, Velasquez’s suspension was lifted. Our advice to Almagno? Two words: Nicotine patch.

200809230827.jpg8. No Nudes Is Good Nudes

Here are two quick rules of thumb. If you’re going to teach art to high schoolers, try not to post nude photos of yourself online. And if you must teach art and pose in the nude, don’t do it in Texas. Tamara Hoover found this out the hard way in May 2006, when she was forced to leave her teaching position at Austin High School after students discovered semi-nude pix of the 31-year-old on Flickr. Perhaps it was the photos of a nude Hoover wearing a spiked dog collar that set school administrators into a tizzy, or perhaps it was simply because the photos were taken by Hoover’s gay lover. Because as we all know, Texas has no room for artists, lesbians, or naked people.

200809230830.jpg9. Nice, Err, Pom Poms

As Texas is to nude art teachers, Illinois is to scantily clad cheerleading coaches. In April 2007, 25-year-old Natosha Shaw was temporarily stripped of her pom poms when parents at Waukegan High discovered sexy photos on Shaw’s MySpace profile. Parents claimed the aspiring dancer/model was also “inexperienced, incompetent, and immature” as well as under dressed. But Shaw, who’s also an executive assistant to an Illinois state congressman, was ultimately given a second chance. Apparently it’s OK to train teenage girls to perform in front of crowds wearing skimpy outfits, so long as you don’t do it on MySpace. Shouldn’t the parents be more worried that she doesn’t know how to spell “Natasha”?

200809230835.jpg10. Then We Ordered Another Bottle of Tequila, and When I Woke Up One of My Kidneys Was Missing

It was a vacation she’d probably rather forget. When Janet Dudley-Eshbach, president of Salisbury University in Maryland, created an album of her family’s trip to Mexico on Facebook in October 2007, she didn’t expect a local TV station to broadcast the photos to the world, or to have a Wikipedia entry covering the mini-scandal. The problem wasn’t the photos so much as the captions, like the one for this picture: “I ended up having to beat off the Mexicans because they were constantly flirting with my daughter.” (We believe she meant with a stick.) Or the photo of a tapir, a piglike mammal, with an arrow pointing to its outsized manhood. The 53-year-old educator was forced to apologize for conduct unbecoming a university president–and to endure a painful lesson on how not to use Facebook’s privacy settings.

200809230838.jpg11. Yesterday, Spring Break; Tomorrow, Prison Break

What’s a Halloween costume cost? For college junior Joshua Lipton, it was two years of his life. In October 2006, the Bryant University student was charged with drunk driving after causing a three-car crash that left one Providence woman in critical condition. Two weeks later he showed up for a Halloween party dressed as “Jail Bird,” photos of which made it onto Facebook. That didn’t sit very well with the judge in the case, who called the picture “a defense attorney’s worst nightmare” and sentenced Lipton to two years in prison. The good news: The department of corrections didn’t have to issue Lipton a new jumpsuit–he already had his own.

200809230849.jpg12. I’m a PC, She’s a Mac, and You’re Unemployed

Michael Hanscom did not pose nude on Flickr, attack the locals with a stick on his trip to Mexico, or dress up like the Fairy Princess while calling in sick. His crime? In October 2003, the Microsoft temp posted photos of Macintosh G5s being unloaded on the Redmond campus to his blog with the title “Even Microsoft wants G5s.” And that was enough to get him canned from his job in Microsoft’s print shop for an alleged “security violation.” Apparently, the world’s largest developer of software for the Mac (besides Apple) didn’t want anyone to know that some of its employees use Macs. (Thanks for Michael Hanscom for use of the photo.)

Sexual Fetish Addiction – Treatment and Issues in Society

By: Emma James MABNLP, MATLTA, MAHYP, Dip FTST

Something which is very prevalent in our society today is the fact that we have to hide our preferences which appear to be socially unacceptable. Anything which is deemed to be “deviant” is then assumed to be not “normal” and therefore should be hidden.

This in itself then creates a behavior which is secretive and creates a feeling of anticipation which in itself is then felt as exhilarating and something which is breaking the rules especially if that person has a life where they feel they have to conform.

Sometimes the issues are not necessarily with the client and does lead us to question whether it is in fact society which has the problem and not client, particularly if the sexual fetish is not harmful to self, others, a problem financially and is not feeling like a compulsion or addiction. Yet, I still get enquiries and see clients who feel they “should not” have the need or the want to indulge in something they enjoy purely on the basis it is not socially acceptable.

However, when a sexual fetish becomes an issue, is obviously when it does become obsessive, an addiction, harmful to ones self or to another or others. Additionally there is the issue of whether the client can afford it, it is encroaching on their relationships or getting in the way of their lifestyle or future.

As you well know, the variance of sexual fetishes is never ending and may be from apparently mundane attributes which we might never see as sexually arousing through to better known terms of experiencing that one preference which somehow fulfills our needs.

The need for dominance, being subservient, visual or tactile fetishes like tights or pantyhose, physical fetishes like wrestling or female muscle worship, the sexual anticipation of visiting massage parlors or hiring high end escorts and so many others which vary and in a way give us something which we feel give us what we need in no other way anything else can. The point is – there should be no judgment as each of us in some way have a preference in our sexual makeup just same as preferring blondes, brunettes, short, tall, thin etc. It is just that those preferences have been deemed as “acceptable” by not only society but also the press.

When a client decides they need to deal with this sexual fetish, then the first step is to establish whether or not they need to in fact lose it altogether. Is it something which feels out of control?

The problem is that if ultimately you do not want to let it go altogether, then no treatment will work. No doctor, psychologist or any other therapist will be able to help if in fact there is resistance at some level in letting the fetish go. So, the first thing we have to do is to decide if you do in fact want to completely lose it, or in fact you want to keep it under control and be something you might like to indulge in occasionally instead of it taking over your life. That way – if there is agreement at some level, then you are able to conduct therapy effectively.

Some of the issues associated with fetishes are when they have in fact become an addiction. A continual need to have that feeling fulfilled which then takes over so much of your mental space and energy it is difficult to focus on any other area of your life.

Again, this is easy to deal with and with a combination of NLP, TLT and Hypnotherapy, depending on the need of the client, the compulsion and overriding need starts to reduce and then disappear.

One thing so many therapists forget about is that you are now creating a very large empty gulf and if in fact you do not gain agreement from the client as to how in fact to full that gap then the fetish or addiction/compulsion can then come back as it is the only thing which will full the void.

Also – fetishes which are not wanted can also be a product of other parts of the self which have not been developed or are formed by past life experience or learned behaviour in some way. For instance, a client who required severe domination to the extent of being cut and experience blood letting had in fact formed the connection of release and that pain from when he was young and had been involved in a car accident resulting in multiple fractures and severe pain. The pain then turned into a kind of “rush” as he put it and a release in a way and then he began to seek that same feeling from other avenues. The problem had begun when he needed to be cut and experience the pain to that degree which he knew was taking him into a place which was not beneficial for him. That is when he contacted me.

Some clients decide on something which is better for them like a renewed interest in self, doing something more productive for themselves or maybe taking part in another sexual activity which is less harmful or distracting for the client and they do not have the same compulsion towards.

The approach I have with clients is somewhat different from other therapists as we look for the connections and what the client is gaining from the fetish and what it gives them and find another way of giving them the same feeling of pleasure, belonging, elation, anticipation, release that would be missing and possibly create another compulsion if not dealt with.

So many therapists claim to be able to deal with fetishes but without understanding the client or understanding fetish and with the belief that a set treatment will “cure” them of their terrible affliction! I have to say that as yet, no one has yet shocked me nor have they presented anything other than a logical need or want based on their life experience and current requirements in order for them to feel whole.

So, if your preferences/fetishes have become unmanageable in some way then do seek help but first look at the reasons you are about to deal with and ask yourself if it is because you are looking for an apparent social acceptance if it is not hurting anyone else or yourself in any way?

Top Ten Fetishes You Will Wonder About

Meow! Some fetishes are crazy but it is true that they exist. Men and women are sexual animals who derive pleasures from various avenues. Here are some ten fetishes which are top on the list. It is good to gauge your degree of fixation by reading about other people. During a survey carried out recently the following was revealed. Number ten on the list concerns stomachs. Males and females admitted that taut tummies drive them crazy. They said they will never be caught dating a person who has loose tummy. However some men admitted that they love women with a teensy-weensy tummy to help them release their sexual urge on the woman’s tummy. Otherwise his experience would not be enjoyable.

Number nine among the ten fetishes concerns body piercing. There are people with an obsession about tongues, nipples, penises, eyebrows and belly buttons. They would not get turned on by a person without these or more body piercing. To them it is not only beautiful but prerequisite. Men love material such as rubber, leather, latex and vinyl. Actually they do not love the feel but the pornographic quality the material gives to the act of love making. Men will always have a fixation with a “bad girl” look even though they settle down with a “nice woman”. They find it teasing to watch a woman walking around in something tight and shiny. To some, the fetish goes as far as ordering their girlfriends to change their wardrobe to latex and leather attire only.

Among the fetishes, number seven concerns submission and domination especially in bed. There are some men who love their sexual encounters better if the woman orders them around like slaves. They are smacked, spanked and even penetrated with a strap-on. These variety of men enjoy being submissive to the women. I guess they are just tired of dominating all the time. Number six talks about something you are familiar with. Many people have a fetish with hand and feet. Some men only date women with beautiful toes and feet. This is because they love to bite, suck, lick and kiss their women’s feet. Crazy as it may sound, some women exclusively climax on sucking a man’s finger as though it was his penis. Number five on the list is about men’s crazy obsession with red lipstick and long, red-painted fingernails. It is a thing of the 1980s but it makes them feel like they are having adulterous sex which is exciting.

Men are so much into pigtails, braids and ponytails. Hair is a great fetish is among the ten fetishes. Men prefer dating younger women and dating one with a pigtail makes them feel like their desires are fulfilled. They too love the way the hair is tied up such that it resembles a whip. They then demand their women to whip them with the tied hair and it turns them on ultimately. Some women have a fetish for bald heads. They love to caress the bald head during a passionate embrace. Fetish number three involves water. Some people admitted to having enjoyed sex when there was some running water at the background. It could be rain or the shower. Number one on the list is voyeurism and exhibitionism. Many men need to see sex being in performance in order to enjoy their sexual encounter. They have to be watching pornography or erotic movies to orgasm.

Fetish: for Your Pleasure

While some think that fetishes are sexual obsessions the truth is that these days a fetish is anything that heightens your sexual experience – even more than usual. It could be getting gagged and bound or having your naughty little romp video taped, it could be dressing up in leather or having sex with a complete stranger… even your love of women in heels could be painted with the ultra sexy fetish brush.

Feet and Toes Fetish

Maybe Madonna had it right when she said; “Shoes are better than sex because they last longer,” but according to the largest global study of sexual kinks ever under taken, there are a lot of men and women who don’t have a problem combining the two. This fetish was voted one of the world’s most favourite with thousands touting their love of foot jobs and toe sucking proving that putting your foot down can create new sexual delights… which leads us to the next fetish on our list…

Trampling Fetish

If you’ve ever had someone walk on you during sex then you’ve been trampled on and if you haven’t tried it then give it a go – it’s exhilarating for those who get off on domination. The woman wears high heels while she walks over the man’s chest, throat, stomach, and crotch. Funny thing is that the man will barley move even when the woman is standing on his crotch with spiked heels. The men love the idea of being under a woman’s heel and the woman loves being on top. It’s a win-win situation where everyone gets off!

Domination Fetish

Speaking of domination… this fetish is all about submission – there’s something about having power and being overpowered that sends tingles to all the right places. This fetish has become so popular that it can’t really be classed as underground anymore with more and more clubs organising special domination nights. Using props like whips, chains, handcuffs and gags, domination lovers get a thrill out of being the dominant one or losing control by being controlled.

Latex and Leather Fetish

Seeing a hot body adorned in tight leather or latex could quite possibly be one of the sexiest sights and lucky for those who love this theme as it has an enormous underground culture. There are retail stores where you not only purchase anything and everything latex and leather related, you can also find out about latex parties where you will be surrounded by people dressed in leather and latex all night long.

Uniform Fetish

Who doesn’t go crazy for a man in uniform or a woman dressed in a cheerleader’s outfit? This is a very popular fetish for men and women alike and it really brings the fantasy and fetish world together for a truly naughty night. This fetish is fairly broad and can be taken to any degree you feel comfortable with. A female doctor who seduces her patient or a medieval knight who knows how to use his sword – the options are only limited by your cheeky imagination.

Messy Food Fetish

When the batteries run out on the vibrator what’s a girl to do? Well this fetish might offer some solutions as it involves doing all sorts of things with everything from bananas to jelly. Whether it’s playing with it, smearing it all over the body or having someone else lick it all off, the messy food fetish involves all sorts of bits and pieces you can find at your local grocery store. The tame at heart will probably stick to the chocolate body sauce which is just as delicious in more ways than one.

Balloon Fetish

This one is a little unusual and so we just had to include it! This fetish involves being turned on by balloons; the smell, the noise, the excitement of not knowing when they are going to pop. People who enjoy this fetish are known as ‘looners’ and just hearing a hottie huffing and puffing on a balloon is enough to drive them over the edge.

BDSM: An Immeasurable Range of Sexual, Sensual and Intimate Activities

To some people, the term BDSM brings to mind images of people tied up in chains, in some dark secret dungeon and being whipped senseless in some type of twisted if not macabre pleasure. You know, an indulgence for those bordering of mental illness. bent_forward_strappadoThis of course could be seen as true in some instances but this is not what BDSM is all about. BDSM cannot be defined by one activity alone, in fact it would be accurate to say that BDSM cannot be defined by any number of activities, it’s a lifestyle choice, which is entirely unique.

The term ‘BDSM’ encompasses an immeasurable range of sexual, sensual and intimate activities. The most common can include power or role-play, a range of sensory games from the extreme infliction of intense pain to the gentle tease of a feather and much more. Many have even participated in an act that could sit under the caveat of BDSM without even knowing it and this style of sexuality is ever on the increase whether you are aware of it or not.

So, what exactly is BDSM?

The term BDSM itself is actually made up from abbreviations of other terms. B & D represents ‘bondage and dominance’ or ‘bondage and discipline’. D & S represents ‘dominance and submission’ and S & M represents ‘sadism and masochism’. With all these terms sitting under the BDSM belt it is easier to see exactly why BDSM can be extremely hard to define and is simply more straightforward to view as a way of life.

As well as being hard to define there are also no set practices within BDSM. For many, it is seen as a way to add an element of spice and enjoyment to their sex lives. Others can view BDSM as a way to gain fulfillment or a temporary release from everyday life, a kind of escape if you will. Still others will view it as a way to deepen the bond between partners. This list of varying views could continue but it is far simpler to point out that there are possibly as many views as there are people involved in the subject. Although the list of views varies dramatically the people behind them all share something in common and that something is known as SSC.

Like BDSM, SSC is also an acronym. It stands for Safe, Sane and Consensual. Safe means that precautions are taken to prevent harm or injury to those involved. Sane means that mental and emotional safety is also cared for and consensual almost speaks for itself; all parties involved agreeing to participate without coercion.

BDSM involves, but is not limited to, any one or a combination of the following practices. The practice is as varied as the people involved in it. The main thing is eroticism.

1. Bondage: refers to the practice of physically restraining a person, by means of devices such as handcuffs, rope, chains etc.

2. Discipline: refers to the process of punishing or being punished.

3. Sadism: refers to deriving pleasure of personal gratification from causing pain, suffering or cruelty.

4. Masochism: refers to deriving pleasure from mental, emotional or physical pain.

While the major sub-groupings of BDSM are within its own definition, it encompasses a very wide variety of practices, some being obvious and others not so obvious. They include;

1. Servitude or slavery

2. Spanking/flogging/canning/whipping

3. Suspension

4. Humiliation

5. Sadism/masochism

6. Sensory deprivation (Example, blindfolding)

7. Body piercing and tattooing

8. Movement restriction

9. Sensation-play (Example, tickling)

10. Medical procedures

What sort of people practice BDSM?

Contrary to the images imprinted in our minds by the media, BDSM is not necessarily hardcore sadism or pornography. People of all walks of life, from various backgrounds and nationalities, all sexual orientations, perform BDSM activities. Participants are, in most cases, normal well-adjusted, and respectable people in their communities. In fact as much as 50% of the population have a varying degree of interest in the subject and that’s with them being knowledgeable enough to know what it encompasses. If you include in those figures couples that may have restrained each other to a bed or the simple use of a blindfold you could expect that percentage to soar. Historically this behavior was listed as a psychological problem in a similar vain to masturbation and homosexuality. Today, however, as are homosexuality and masturbation becoming increasingly accepted in society, so is BDSM.

Is BDSM abuse?

People who practice it say they do so for fun. The emphasis is on SSC (Safe, Sane and Consensual). It is not about dominance or forcing another person to do things they don’t want to do. It is about both parties doing what they do want to do. It involves two happy parties.

BDSM can also be subtle and highly erotic, as in the case of tickling or stimulating sensitive body parts with a feather, paintbrush or similar object. There may or may not be pain.

The majorities involved in BDSM share a heightened sense of responsibility and respect for their partners. BDSM has absolutely nothing to do with violence against a helpless victim. It is this kind of common misconception that responsible BDSM participants wish to dispel. Restraining a partner and beating them is not BDSM but simply brutality. The heightened sense of responsibility and respect often results in a positive side effect of superior levels of communication, which, in the BDSM world, is essential, and something that the majority of mainstream couples would be advised to adapt.

Responsible participants practice the use of good communication up front, the use of a ‘safe word’ which will stop the action immediately and a period of communication after any event to discuss what could be better for the next time.

Why BDSM?

There are as many reasons as there are people. The most obvious is good old fun. Some people do it to fulfill their fantasies. For others it is the role-playing. For some it is simply the feeling of dominance or submission. The list is endless.

One thing you can be sure of is that BDSM will always attract a certain curiosity. People will come from all genders and orientations establishing common ground between heterosexuals, homosexuals and any other orientation that you can think of. Before you dismiss BDSM and vouch that you would never participate in such an act or lifestyle, can you be so sure that you haven’t, to a certain degree, done so already?

Max Hardcore Attorneys Deliver Appeal to 11th Circuit

CINCINNATI, Ohio — As Max Hardcore prepares to begin serving his 46-month sentence for obscenity crimes, his attorneys have filed an appeal to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal, requesting to orally argue their case.

In documents obtained by XBIZ, Hardcore attorneys point to a dozen issues of contention, including whether community standards should be applied to online material and whether a defendant’s sentence can be enhanced for sadomasochism when the evidence is that the acts were not painful.

The attorneys also want the 11th Circuit to weigh whether federal obscenity laws are unconstitutional when it comes to criminalizing the sale of adult material for private viewing, as well as whether the government can prosecute an online adult company when it didn’t have proof that defendants knew their site was hosted in the district of prosecution.

They also claim that the Miller test requirement that material be taken as a “whole” is impossible in the context of the Internet.

“Defendants’ federal obscenity convictions, the first of their kind in decades, are riddled with constitutional difficulties that mandate reversal on appeal,” the attorneys said in a brief filed yesterday. “Given these errors, defendants’ convictions and sentences should be overturned on appeal.”

Jurors in June returned a verdict of guilty against Hardcore on 10 federal counts of distributing obscene materials in central Florida over the Internet and through the mail. His company, MaxWorld Enterprises, also was found guilty on 10 related counts. Both Hardcore, whose real name is Paul F. Little, and his company were fined $1.4 million, as well.

Hardcore has been ordered to report to federal prison at Lompoc, Calif., on Jan. 29.

Attorney Jeffrey Douglas, who represented Hardcore at U.S. District Court in Tampa, said at the time that it was a “sad day for America” when he was convicted.

But on Wednesday, Douglas told XBIZ he was optimistic the 11th Circuit would take the case, giving kudos to the attorneys who wrote the 57-page, 13,085-word brief and will handle the appeal.

“All congratulations for this effort belong to H. Louis Sirkin, Jennifer Kinsley and that firm,” he said, referring to Cincinnati-based Sirkin, Pinales & Schwartz.

Glossary of BDSM A – Z:

200809211614.jpg

Call It Kinky, Swinky or perverse, but I think we all have our “little things” that help make our sex lives different.

But what about swingers – is it enough that we Swing? I have had a few (ok, many) emails that ask about Fetishes and in particular about BDSM and Swinging.

The main things that are asked are about clubs – many offer an area for use in BDSM Play but can You really play out a full scene in them? I would say No – I know one couple that played in one of these areas and got told to stop as it was “too much” for the bystanders to take! They are now taking their play away from swingers clubs and to places where they know they will be able to “pink it up” without being told they are “abnormal”.

Many people both swingers and in the Vanilla world just think of BDSM as either being in pain or being the pain supplier but it is (apparently Lol) so much more than this.

To play out a scene you have to be in a safe zone and trust those you are not only Playing with but also those that may be Watching.

It may be that the Dom and the sub live their lives Fully in this way or just use it to “scene” every now and again. Some people do not even use BDSM as a sexual gratification but a simple way of life.

BDSM is an erotic experience and not just simply pain, it can be something as simple as spanking your partner or blindfolding them all the way to being dressed in full rubber suits with nothing but a straw to beathe through. The only thing that is important is that all parties are comfortable and are all on the same path emotionally. Communication as always, is they key to this particular lock!

There are many books, DVD’s and “how to” guides out there but the best way to learn is to take it slowly, find out what makes you tick, write a list of things that you think you may want to try and remember to laugh if it all goes wrong.

Swinger’s Lifestyle: Klingons and Predators

200809211036.jpg

Klingons and Predators. No, this is not a story about creatures with big foreheads and bad tempers or ones that turn invisible and hunt California governors for sport. This is a story about two of the hazardous types of swingers that can ruin your lifestyle experience. Whether they are singles or couples, they are always a pain and always a bad reflection on the rest of us. So let’s break each one down.

KLINGONS: Not those in battle cruisers, but just as intrusive. The typical Klingon is a swinging couple, or swingle, that you have met before, or perhaps even played with, and now thinks that every time they see you, they get you. They “cling on” to you. For example: you come into a club, you start to mingle, getting excited about the prospect of playing with someone new, and then the Klingons spot you in their radar. As they glance in your direction, fear hits you like a ton of bricks, “Oh no, they are here! The last time they were here they wouldn’t leave our side! Do they think they own us!?” They’ve forgotten Swinger’s Rule #46: Just because you’ve played with someone before does not mean it will happen again. If a Klingon sees you, your night is pretty much over… or is it?

You can deal with this problem in a graceful manner. But how do you do this?

The Nice Approach: As always the first rule of engagement with Klingons should be to follow the swinger prime directive… Er… basically “be nice.” Maybe say something like this, “We really would like to spend time with you tonight, but we have another play date. So maybe another time?” Most Klingons will respect this, since they are an honorable species and wouldn’t dream of spoiling another swinger’s booty call. It shows respect for others, as well as giving them a good feeling as they move on and find someone else to play with. Ditching someone only hurts people’s feelings and shows extremely bad swinger etiquette.

The Honest Approach: Just tell them straight up, “No thank you”. Keep in mind, if they hang out in the same circle of friends as you, this could be awkward for everyone. Depending on how well you know them, or how sensitive they are, they might be embarrassed, or even angry, and this could come back to haunt you later if they choose to start bad-mouthing you to others (Sounds like high school doesn’t it?). However, if they are good friends, then they will appreciate your honesty and will completely understand. Keep in mind that they may simply be uncomfortable or shy in a large crowd and were simply seeking to hang out with you, not monopolize you. So be careful that you haven’t misread them – in this case, it might be better to say something like “Guys, we love you, but tonight we are looking to hook up with someone new.” Perhaps adding, “…want to help us?”

Remember, someday you may be the one getting told “no.” So think about how you would like the message delivered to you. Your reputation in the lifestyle is everything. Be kind, but also be as honest and direct as required. Now, if you think you might be that Klingon couple, and you want to save yourselves possible embarrassment, then e-mail or call them and ask for a play date, rather than hovering over them like an uncloaked battle cruiser. Remember, just because someone says “Not tonight”, doesn’t mean “Never again.” Take it as an opportunity to find some new friends of your own. There is always tomorrow!

PREDATORS: They can be a pain in everyone’s fun. We all don’t have our preferred ways to initiate play…but Predators are in a league of their own, and always with dramatic results. This is a calculating couple that uses manipulation to get what they want. It doesn’t really matter what you want, they are determined to notch their bedpost with you.

For instance: A new couple is just looking to play with a girl, so the predators chat them up and tell them the husband is really a voyeur and say “I’d love to watch my wife play with you.” So off to the play rooms they go, with no real intention of honoring the other couple’s comfort levels. As Mrs. Predator occupies the guy, Mr. Predator is on the female, trying to push her boundaries as far as he can get away with. These Predators are rare in the seasoned swinger community, but the bad impression they leave on curious and vulnerable newbies is responsible for most of the bad press that the swinger community so often receives.

Another Predator technique I’ve observed is the “Suprise Attack” technique. This usually takes place during playtime at a club or party. The Predators will scope out who they want, sit back and wait for the play to begin. When they see an opportunity, they strike! Someone once told me a story of a classic Predator experience they once had. He and his wife threw a house party. He was in the middle of playing with a unicorn friend of theirs, when a couple that they didn’t know very well approached them and told him that they really wanted to change the music, but couldn’t figure out the stereo system. Wanting to be a good host, he got off (and out) of his unicorn friend for a moment to walk across the room to change the music. When he turned around the Predator couple had already pounced on the unicorn like two hungry lions on a wounded… uh… unicorn. It had literally been only 10 seconds! The host was pissed and the unicorn was uncomfortable… However, neither of them knew what to do and never spoke up!

How do you deal with Predators? There is really only one way: TELL THEM NO! Right then, right there. Start with a waved hand indicating no, then move on to “Sorry, not tonight”, then heighen to, “That’s not ok with me” and then finally going to “Hey, get the fuck away from me!” If you are at a club or someone else’s party, you don’t have to take it on yourselves. Tell the party hosts and get them thrown out. I have seen Predators that just walk up and shove their genitals in people’s faces. These are couples with little or no social skills and a blatant disregard for anyone’s fun but there own. So don’t ever feel bad about possibly hurting their feelings.

But be careful not to mislabel someone as a Predator. On one occasion in my travels, I had a run in with a couple I mislabeled as Predators. I later found out they didn’t speak any English and were from a country where the swinger culture very different than ours. They were actually very nice and didn’t mean to offend anyone. Even with their language barrier they learned quickly how they were supposed to act at parties over here and did their best to adjust. So try to be nice.

To feel comfortable in the swinger lifestyle, it’s important that you feel you have some control over your experiences. Just like in the real world, there are those out there who will do whatever it takes to get what they want from you. Look out for yourself, your partner and your own needs and you will have a fun time.

The intention of this article is not to complain about negative experiences in the swinger lifestyle, but to inform those who may not see it coming. Avoid the speed bumps I call “Klingons and Predators.” That’s not the way the lifestyle works, so if you run into either of these then just waive it off as an anomaly and continue on as you make new friends and live an incredible lifestyle that others cannot imagine.
